After she finishes intake at Lumley unit, she will be assigned a housing unit according to her custody level. You will need to complete a visitation/phone call application and she can call you once you are approved. There is no definitive time frame. I have seen it take anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the circumstances.

Yes. Your loved one can not purchase anything while she is going through intake. The money will become available after she is placed on her housing unit. There are ways to have money available for your inmate sooner, however you will need to start this process in county before she is transported to Perryville. If she has already been transported there is nothing you can do about it, but it will become available.

When an inmate gets to Perryville, they will be asked to fill in a 20 list. Think of it like a contact book. The inmate is allowed up to 20 contacts. She can add all 20 when she first gets there, or she can can make changes to it throughout her sentence. If a person puts in a visitation/phone application and is NOT on her 20 list, the inmate can not call that person. The person has to be approved and actively on the inmates 20 list.

When you first get there you will have to go through policy procedures for security. You will fill out a visit form, take your shoes off, and walk through a metal detector. They may have you sniffed by the dogs. No big deal. Relax, and just follow the steps to get you through. It’s not hard if you are in compliance. Once you see your loved one, I am sure you will feel a sigh of relief. You’ll get to wrap your arms around her like you’ve been waiting to do for months. She may be dressed in orange, but she’s still the girl you’ve been waiting to see! I’m sure she will ease your mind once you see her as well.
